Being the big music lover I am, looking for excuses to post about it and share lyrics is something I'm always doing. And one of the best ways to do so is to fill out surveys that center around such things. I've actually done this one in the past but figured it was due for an update as the original journal was two years ago. Plus I'm bored.
Anyway, what you basically do is list ten songs that you could not live without + a little description as to why you picked that song. Now I've got a lot of favorites and they tend to rotate up the ladder of 'importance' but I'll do my best to picks songs that I know are 'forever favorites'. My musical tastes have also expanded pretty significantly since I did the original, which can be viewed here --->
[link]These aren't ordered in any particular significance, just as they come to my head.
1)
Closer - Kings of LeonYou shimmy-shook my boat, leaving me stranded all in love on my ownI came late to the KOL bandwagon and honestly, am actually one of those fans that the hard-cores hate in that I REALLY prefer their most recent CD to anything that came before. I actually don't really like their old sound at all. The new album though, I fell head over heals for and this track was one of my favorites. The smooth music mixed with Caleb's haunting voice is perfection.
2)
When the Heartache Ends - Rob ThomasIt's never easy and you never know, what leaves you crying and what makes you wholeMm I just naturally love Rob but aside from that, there's something about his voice that is very soothing. And being as music is basically my way to cope with a lot of things, that kind of quality is very important. So when he sings about how everything is gonna be alright (such as in this song) I can believe it and feel it. He's got that whole 'it feels like he's singing only to you' quality going on.
3)
Romeo and Juliet (Remake) - The KillersI can't do everything, but I'd do anything for you. I can't do anything except be in love with youThis song was originally sung by Dire Straits and while they too did a great job at it, I was first exposed to the song through TKs and it's really them I love. Brandon's voice throughout this entire song is heartbreaking and captivating all the same. He makes it so easy to feel the emotion of the song and relate to Romeo's pain. I love it.
4)
The Man Who Can't Be Moved - The ScriptGot some words on cardboard, got your picture in my hand. Saying if you see this girl, can you tell her where I amI discovered The Script last year when their debut album was released in America and instantly became a fan. I love their style and the way the group's voices mingle. This song especially, is really well done IMO. It didn't take long for me to learn all the lyrics so I could sing along or sing it to myself, for that matter. When a song or band draws me in that fast I know they're gonna have a lasting place on the 'fav' list.
5)
Under Control - Parachute Oh so darling please forgive me, I want you and you'll just have to knowLol to break up the trend of heartbreak I seem to have going on here, this is a song that actually holds hope for future love. It's about being unable to hide one's feelings and really...who can't relate to that? This group is another recent find for me but they also produced a recent CD (their first under the new name of Parachute) that was good enough to spark interest.
6)
Reflections - Mad CaddiesI'm lost agian out on the highway, searching for answers that I fearA ska song! My friends would be so proud lol. Seriously though, I really do like the Caddies. Chuck's got a nice voice on him and great lyrics. I've moved from the 'grudging approval' state of things to a budding fan!
7)
Bent - Matchbox TwentyIf I need some other love, give me more then I can standMore Rob Thomas, this time with his band Matchbox Twenty. I just love the lyrics of this song and the forlorn sound of it. Together with Rob's voice all the aspects come together beautifully. Probably one of my favorite Matchbox songs.
8)
Syndicate - The FrayHalf way around the world lies the one thing you want, buried in the ground hundreds of miles downThis song has a mixed message of hope and continuing to strive forward and it's one that I like to listen to on the 'sad' days. The overall tune is poppy and catchy and just easy to sing along to. I love the chorus especially.
9)
I'll Be - Edwin McCainAnd you're my survival, you're my living proof. My love is alive and not dead.I've loved this song for awhile now, both because of the lyrics and music. Overall I'm not a big fan of Edwin's music but there are a few songs, this one in particular, that hit hard on the favorites list. And yes, I realize what a cheesy love song this is...but that's probably why I like it lol.
10)
Wherever You Will Go - The CallingIn your heart and your mind, I'll stay with you for all of timeAnother song I've loved for quite awhile. This was actually a song that I'd been chasing down for years after hearing it on the raido and only recently (last year maybe)found it on a whim while searching iTunes. I just love the way everything comes together in this song (lol how many times have I already said that?) and can't help but sing with the music or by myself.
And there you have it! Not a country song to be seen this time...thought it IS still my primary genre of listening. Now, I think I'll go sleep and wait another couple years before repeating this process. It's ridiculous how long listing favorite songs is when you only have 10 slots to fill. Survey took me all night
